Report: "Growing Power Struggle" Amongst WWE Main Eventers Backstage (WWE News)
Top WWE stars reportedly jousting for TV time, marquee matches and top spots.
You'd be forgiven for reading the headline and thinking, 'What else is new?!'. Top stars in wrestling have been battling it out for the tippy top spots since the dawn of time, so it's certainly nothing earth shattering to think they're at it again. However, WWE has operated a little differently in the modern era, at least on paper.
Locker room harmony has been a big thing for Triple H since he assumed control of the creative department in the wake of Vince McMahon's exit. Generally, top names such as Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins, Brock Lesnar and others have been able to co-exist because there was plenty of goodness to go around.
Has something changed?
Fresh reports from WRKD Wrestling claim that "there is very much a growing power struggle amongst some main event WWE talents to maintain their top spot". The website also pointed to this week's SmackDown as "just a glimpse".
There, Cody defeated Jey Uso to rocket back into the WWE Title picture, and he'll work opposite new champ Sami Zayn on Monday's episode of Raw. Coincidentally, that flagship is earmarked as a return date for fellow top name CM Punk, which will only add to the glut of major stars Hunter has to keep happy on main event mountain.
WRKD included an animated .GIF of Reigns and Brock jostling for possession of the WWE Championship to better illustrate their point. So, is there any truth to this or is it mere speculation and nothing new? Only time will tell, especially given how precarious some of the SummerSlam spots seem right now.
There was previously talk of interference from TKO execs that irked Rhodes, and a news story in March implied that Roman and Cody were being kept apart behind the scenes too.
