Fresh off defending his World Heavyweight Championship against Damian Priest at WWE Survivor Series 2024, it appears that Gunther is set to remain with WWE for the foreseeable future.

Both PWInsider and Fightful Select report that the Ring General is closing in on a new deal with WWE, with the expectation that this contract will be finalised before the year is out. As one would expect for someone in Gunther's position, this will be a long-term, multi-year deal, and the belief is that the 37-year-old is either close to penning a new contract or may even have already signed that new deal.

Additionally, WWE is said to be "thrilled" with Gunther for his in-ring work and also for how he conducts himself for the media obligations that come with being a top WWE star. In fact, one WWE higher-up that Fightful reached out to described Gunther as one of the most professional talents they've ever worked with.

The Rise Of The Ring General

A 19-year veteran of the squared circle, Gunther is currently viewed as one of the very best wrestlers on the planet, nowadays at the top of the mountain on the Raw brand as the World Heavyweight Champion. Despite ruling out a move to WWE for the longest time - in particular, a move to the United States - the former Walter is thriving as one of the biggest stars under the market leader's banner.

Prior to signing with WWE in late 2018, Gunther made a major name for himself across the European and wider international scenes, most notably with Germany's wXw promotion. Away from wXw, the Austrian superstar also worked for the likes of PROGRESS, RevPro, CZW, EVOLVE, and Pro Wrestling Guerilla.

Gunther's time with WWE initially saw him calling the NXT UK brand home, where he spent a mammoth 870 days as the NXT UK Champion. Since moving to the WWE main roster in April 2022, Gunther has had huge success, embarking on a record-setting 666 days as the Intercontinental Champion, winning the 2024 King of the Ring, and defeating Damian Priest as this year's SummerSlam to win his first WWE World Championship.

As for what Gunther has going on right now, the Imperium man is fresh off another match with Priest, picking up a win over the Punisher at Survivor Series last weekend. Of course, that win came with a little bit of assistance from Finn Balor, and Balor has used that to insert himself into the World Heavyweight Title picture. More specifically, Finn and Gunther are now confirmed to go one-on-one at Saturday Night's Main Event on 14 December, with the World Heavyweight Championship on the line
