HUGE Backstage Update On Samoa Joe Returning To WWE
New details on Samoa Joe, who was reportedly at the WWE Performance Center last week.
Samoa Joe is on his way back to WWE, having taken on a new role in NXT.
Per Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Joe will at least be working in a behind the scenes capacity for the black and gold brand - and could be the favourite to succeed William Regal as NXT General Manager should the Englishman step down.
Regal's on-air future is currently in doubt, with the GM suggesting "it's time for a change" at the end of TakeOver: In Your House last night. Meltzer was informed that upon returning, Joe would be used in "a Regal-like role," and would be considered the favourite to succeed the long-standing authority figure if he steps down.
Joe was one of several wrestlers released by WWE as part of the company's latest round of "budget cuts" on 15 April. He is yet to emerge elsewhere in professional wrestling, owing to a standard 90-day non-compete clause that doesn't expire until mid-July.
Fightful Select reported recently that Joe was at the WWE Performance Center last week, having learned that NXT personnel had heard WWE was looking at bringing the former champion back to the black and gold brand.
