Jamie Hayter Not Cleared For Action (AEW News)
The reason for Jamie Hayter's recent AEW absence.
Having not been seen since being attacked by Thekla last month, AEW's Jamie Hayter is reportedly not cleared to wrestle right now.
As per Fightful Select, AEW had to get "creative" with Thekla's company debut and attack on Hayter due to the Brit not being medically cleared. Hence, that's why we got the lights-out angle that gave us the visual of Jamie having been laid out, but without fans actually getting to see that assault.
When Fightful reached out to Hayter, she told the outlet that she was okay. However, AEW sources noted how the former AEW Women's Champion would have been booked in recent weeks if she were available, indicating that she's not currently cleared to get physical. There's no timetable on when the 30-year-old will be back in action, and there are also no specifics as of this writing on what's keeping Jamie on the sidelines.
It goes without saying, but here's hoping Jamie Hayter is back in an AEW ring and cracking skulls as soon as possible.
Jamie Hayter In AEW
While Jamie Hayter is one of the best workers in all of AEW, her time with the company has been a mixed one due to various factors.
Having made her AEW debut in October 2019 - mere months into the company's lifespan - plans for Jamie to become a regular presence in the promotion were brought to a crashing halt by the COVID-19 pandemic and the travel restrictions that brought with it. Skip ahead to the summer of 2021, though, and Hayter would return and immediately align herself with Britt Baker and Rebel.
That trio may have initially been designed with Britt's interests at its core as D.M.D. looked to keep hold of her AEW Women's Title, but it soon became apparent that Jamie Hayter was on her own rise up the card. Once Baker lost that title in early 2022, it wouldn't take long for Hayter to start getting shots at the promotion's top female prize, and Full Gear 2022 would see her defeat Toni Storm to become the new AEW Women's Champion.
Jamie would keep hold of the gold until Double or Nothing the following May, dropping it back to Storm before stepping away from the ring for over a year due to back issues that she's since said nearly forced her into retirement. Hayer would return to a monstrous pop from the Wembley Stadium crowd at last year's All In, though that was followed by some extremely so-so creative plans for the powerhouse. That said, Jamie had started to build some solid momentum in recent months, culminating in a loss to Mercedes Moné in the final of this year's Women's Owen Hart Tournament.
Hayter vs. Moné was a great, hard-hitting cracker of a match, although it appears it will be Jamie's last match for a little while. Here's hoping that when she's cleared to return, we'll see Hayter used in a prominent spot on the card. Although, first thing's first, Jamie will surely have Thekla in her immediate crosshairs as and when she's able to return to TV.
