Kenny Omega defeated MJF to become the brand new AEW World Champion on Wednesday's special 'Beach Break' edition of Dynamite. By winning, Omega skipped a pre-bout stipulation that would've rendered him unable to challenge for the belt again had he lost. He's also lined up a tasty-looking All In main event vs. Will Ospreay over in London, England on 30 August.

Wembley Stadium will be rocking for that one, no doubt.

This result ends Friedman's third run as champion at just 45 days. He'd beaten Darby Allin at Double Or Nothing on 24 May to reclaim the strap. This is Omega's second stint with the top prize - he was previously champ between 2 December 2020-13 November 2021. For the record, that 346 day reign is the second longest in AEW history behind MJF's first reign (406 days between 19 November 2022-30 December 2023).

Switching the top title was obviously Dynamite's biggest result, but it's also worth mentioning that Kyle Fletcher beat Konosuke Takeshita to become the new International Champion as well.

A graphic flashed up on the screens shortly after Kenny's win confirming the bout with Ospreay. Will actually played a part in the finish to this match by stopping MJF from using his Dynamite Diamond ring to win. During the follow-up chaos, Omega was booked to keep his cool and put Max down for the count.

This victory has been a long time coming for Kenny. He's roundly considered one of the best pro wrestlers on the planet, but he's had to watch countless others enjoy the spoils of that AEW World Title for years. Headlining a major stadium show over in London as champ will feel good for Omega then.

Roll on All In.
