Kurt Angle Wanted To Beat Baron Corbin In Final WWE Match
Olympian rightly did the honours at WrestleMania 35.
Kurt Angle gets it. Amidst all the mithering that the Olympian lost his retirement match at WrestleMania 35 (and admittedly, a lot of that mithering had to do with it being against Baron Corbin), Angle humbly stated that it was his role as an outgoing legend to put over the younger talent - even if he'd have preferred to win.
Speaking to fans via a Q&A session on his Facebook page, the retiree admitted he would have loved to have ended on a high, but put the time-honoured tradition of the business above personal esteem - even if the majority of fans in the MetLife Stadium hated the outcome:
"Honestly? I would have liked to go out with a win, but I understand why it didn’t occur. Many people believe that I should have had a different opponent. Maybe. Maybe not. But my argument as to why it should have been Corbin is pretty strong. [...] As a legend or HOFer or- whatever you want to call me, my job is to leave the WWE by doing the honors for a younger talent. I did that. I would have loved to have won, but I don’t think I would have properly played my role if I did. You leave the company better than it was before you came."
Exactly. Though, again, it was Baron Corbin, so the disappointment is eminently understandable. But hey, look at the heat the win has drawn him. That's the point, right?
