Major Update On Kenny Omega's Health
Out with diverticulitis, AEW's Kenny Omega was almost in a "horrendous" situation.
Kenny Omega is set to be sidelined indefinitely after being hospitalised for diverticulitis - but the situation was almost a lot worse.
Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that the AEW star had been in a lot of pain before he was rushed to hospital last Friday. Omega's pain was purportedly similar to that which he felt while dealing with a hernia in 2022, leading the 'Best Bout Machine' to believe he had suffered another. Along with vertigo and myriad other ailments, that hernia was responsible for sidelining Kenny from November 2021 to August 2022.
As well as the pain, Omega was suffering from bloating, so he assumed he had messed up his diet. Kenny trained through it and wrestled Ethan Page on the 5 December Collision tapings regardless. By the time of last week's Dynamite, Kenny was so uncomfortable that he had to go to the hospital, leading to the diverticulitis diagnosis.
Meltzer stated that had Omega "not gone [to the hospital] in another day or so, it could have been horrendous."
Elsewhere, Fightful Select confirms that Omega felt ill before the Page match. Kenny kept the situation quiet, but the situation had worsened by the following week's Dynamite. There, he had expected to only be working backstage, though he ended up doing an in-ring segment with Chris Jericho.
Omega sought medical attention this Wednesday past. He was then hospitalised by doctor's orders.
There is currently no word on when Omega might return to AEW. The 40-year-old was set to team with Jericho against AEW World Tag Team Champions Big Bill and Ricky Starks at Worlds End on 30 December, though Jericho will now be paired with an alternate.
