Stephanie McMahon broke surprising news last Thursday, announcing on Twitter that she was taking an indefinite leave of absence from her role as WWE's Chief Brand Officer.

In the aftermath, it was reported that WWE President and Chief Revenue Officer Nick Khan, one of pro wrestling's most ascendant power players over the past few years, would be assuming the majority of McMahon's duties in her absence. Additionally, Fightful Select have noted that much of the team that previously worked directly with Stephanie in WWE had been released by the company over the past year or so.

Further details on McMahon's WWE departure, including the reasons behind it, have not yet come to light. In an update, PWInsider's Dave Scherer has expressed a belief that there is "a lot more to it than we know right now", with a number of stories seemingly doing the rounds.

Scherer added that he didn't believe that perceived bad booking of WWE's women's divisions was a driving factor.

McMahon's initial tweet noted that she was looking forward to returning to WWE at an undefined point in the future - and that she was taking time away to focus on her family. Her husband, Triple H, has now returned to a full-time WWE position after suffering severe heart failure in 2021.
