Wrestlenomics' Brandon Thurston is reporting that Nick Khan will be "taking over" Stephanie McMahon's WWE duties in her absence.

McMahon announced on Thursday that she'd be "taking a leave of absence from the majority of [her] responsibilities at WWE". Stephanie confirmed that she wouldn't be away from the company forever, calling WWE "a lifelong legacy", but said it's important she takes time out to focus on her family.

Current WWE President and CRO Khan will assume Steph's role as Chief Brand Officer whilst she's away from the organisation. According to Wrestlenomics, several key members of WWE were informed of the change ahead of time.

Others found out just like pro wrestling fans: Twitter.

This news has clearly come as a bit of a shock to some within WWE. Stephanie and husband Triple H had always seemed to be the logical picks to take over from Vince someday - that could still happen, but Stephanie wants to take time away from the daily hustle and bustle to spend precious moments with her family.

Nobody can begrudge her that. Nick Khan will take on more responsibilities in the interim.
