NXT x TNA Invasion Special Announced (WWE News)
NXT x TNA Invasion is set for October 7.
Following the chaotic events of last week's NXT broadcast, it's now been announced that an NXT x TNA Invasion special is on the way.
This announcement was made by NXT General Manager Ava during last night's No Mercy - an event headlined by Ricky Saints defeating Oba Femi to become the new NXT Champion - with Ava confirming that the October 7 edition of NXT will be an Invasion spectacular.
As part of that announcement, four matches have been set for Invasion. TNA Champion Trick Williams will face Oba Femi one more time, with everybody banned from ringside; TNA Tag Team Champions the Hardys go against NXT Tag Team Champions DarkState in a winner-takes-all bout; and there will be two Survivor Series-style matches pitting the men and the women of both brands against each other. For those Survivor Series-esque contests, the competitors will be decided this coming week.
This marks the next step in the working relationship between TNA and WWE, and it may well be that TNA ends up with a slice of WWE gold in their midst with the Hardys vs. DarkState match. After all, in addition to Trick Willy being the TNA Champion, Kelani Jordan is the new TNA Knockouts Champion after defeating Lei Ying Lee at Victory Road on Friday, which itself comes not too long after Jacy Jayne likewise held the Knockouts Title. So, Matt and Jeff Hardy winning the NXT Tag Team Titles would seem like a nice way to balance things out a little - plus, the Hardys remain one of the most popular teams in the game.
Interestingly, that October 7 date is followed the very next night by a special Homecoming edition of AEW Dynamite, where we may or may not see the first-ever women's Blood and Guts match following Jamie Hayter putting that in motion on last night's Collision.
