Ranking All 30 Of The Undertaker's WWE Years From Worst To Best
4. 1997
By the time 1997 had rolled around, The Undertaker moved around the ring with so much finesse and athleticism that it was hard to believe he was ever that slow methodical zombie. The transformation into the Lord of Darkness had done wonders for the quality of the matches he was producing and, even though the company failed to capitalise on that at times, it still carried him to one of his best years yet.
Yes, his WrestleMania 13 main event against Sycho Sid may have been a bit plodding, but it was still a main event match at the Showcase of the Immortals for the WWE Championship, and that subsequent victory propelled him out of the midcard right to the top of the food chain - a place he should have been long before then.
From finally main-eventing a ton of PPVs as World Wrestling Federation Champion and the convincing promos that he had begun cutting to his sensational showings against Shawn Michaels (the second of which, of course, was the first ever Hell In A Cell match) and the debut of Kane, 1997 was perhaps the most pivotal in 'Taker's evolution into the main event player that he still is (on occasion) today.
