Ranking Reddit's 10 Most INSANE Wrestling Conspiracy Theories

6. Shawn Michaels Didn't Have To Retire

Shawn Michaels took a back bump from hell in his Casket Match with The Undertaker in January 1998. Everything about him landing horrifically on the casket outside the ring looked hideous, and it forced Shawn into retirement the night after he headlined WrestleMania 14 with 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin a few months later, before returning for his glorious comeback four years later in 2002.

The people of Reddit do not buy this for one second. The theory is that, while Shawn was definitely hurt, it wasn't so bad that he had to retire. Instead, Michaels knew that Austin was about to be the star of that generation, and that The Rock was set to be the Savage to Austin's Hogan. With HBK's spot at the top of the company in jeopardy, he decided to wait it out for a few years and return once the juice had run out of The Attitude Era.

Throw in some added speculation about Vince paying Shawn to stay home so that he wouldn't jump ship to WCW, where he'd be one of their biggest draws during the height of the Monday Night Wars, including being able to play out a story with his Montreal Screwjob adversary Bret Hart, and you've got yourself a very believable conspiracy.

And, hey, isn't this better for us to speculate than Vince and Shawn being lovers?
