Jim Ross Sets The Record Straight On Vince McMahon/Shawn Michaels Relationship (WWE News)
Iconic announcer chimes in on Bret Hart's claim that Vince McMahon and HBK were lovers.
Legendary announcer Jim Ross has thrown cold water on Bret Hart's recent claim that ex-WWE boss Vince McMahon and Shawn Michaels were lovers during the 1990s. In a word, JR called this suggestion "bulls***". Speaking via his 'Grilling JR' podcast, Ross said this is merely Hart's way of keeping his name in the headlines and making sure people keep talking.
Jim refuses to entertain thoughts that McMahon and Michaels were romantically linked behind the scenes.
However, Ross also pointed out that both Vince and WWE will publicly dismiss Bret's words as “just a bitter guy trying to stir the s***”, but he does believe McMahon will be secretly furious about what has been said. According to Jim, Vince will genuinely be hot about the whole thing: "Privately, it’ll piss [Vince] off a little bit, and he’ll internalize it”.
HBK did seem to get away with a lot of bad behaviour throughout the 1990s. He walked out on things a few times, most notably during his reign as Intercontinental Champion in late 1993. That led to the cherished ladder match between he and Razor Ramon at WrestleMania X, so staunch Shawn fans would say that everything worked out in the end.
Many believed that Michaels and his Kliq pals like Razor, Diesel and even a young Triple H called the shots backstage and had Vince's ear. Even so, Ross reckons that suggesting this had anything to do with an alleged romance between Shawn and McMahon is preposterous and simply the 'Hitman' looking to stir up some controversy amongst fans by continuing to be outspoken.
Bret Being Outspoken Isn't New
Anyone who keeps an eye on the wrestling news will know just how outspoken Bret can be when he's feeling salty. He's made countless cutting remarks about Triple H over the years, and has never seemed able to truly reconcile what happened back at Survivor Series 1997 - the dreaded 'Montreal Screwjob' has come to define Hart in decades since.
That's been true despite him apparently burying the hatchet with Vince personally in 2005 and Shawn in 2010 when he popped back up on WWE programming.
When he isn't bashing Hunter, Vince or Shawn, Bret is firing verbal jabs aplenty at Bill Goldberg. In fact, the recently retired ex-WCW squash artist takes the brunt of Hart's criticism in various interviews and articles. Bret has always called Bill dangerous, and points to a damaging kick which effectively ended his full-time wrestling career at WCW Starrcade 1999 as proof.
Even more recently, Hart has taken aim at current star Sheamus. The legend called his punches poor, and said somebody really needs to show the Irish stalwart how to throw one.
