Ranking WWE's One-Off Pay-Per-Views From Worst To Best
3. InVasion - 2001
Not nearly as good as it should have been in the mind of fantasy bookers, but the WWF-versus-WCW angle was full of potential when it reached the InVasion pay-per-view in 2001.
With a buyrate of 770,000, the event is the highest grossing non-WrestleMania pay-per-view in WWE history. There was huge intrigue over the new matchups and possible debuts, and the crowd at the Gund Arena in Cleveland was red hot, even if not all of the action was.
Matches such as Edge & Christian versus Lance Storm and Mike Awesome and Billy Kidman against X-Pac were nothing special, but felt bigger and better because of the high stakes.
Rob Van Dam against Jeff Hardy for the Hardcore Championship was one of the best matches of the entire storyline, and the night ended with a huge twist as Stone Cold Steve Austin betrayed Team WWF and joined The Alliance to help them win the Inaugural Brawl.
There were lots of speedbumps on the road that followed, and the angle never reached the heights that it promised, but InVasion is a rare one-off pay-per-view success story for WWE.
