Report: AEW's Buddy Matthews Wants WWE Return
Latest update on Buddy Matthews following reports of time away from AEW.
All Elite Wrestling's Buddy Matthews reportedly has a WWE comeback on his mind.
This is according to Dave Meltzer, who reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that like his former House Of Black stablemate, Malakai Black, Matthews wants to get out of his AEW contract to return to the market leaders.
Meltzer described Black and Matthews as being in "the same situation." Buddy is bound to a long-term AEW contract and is now on a break from the company, at least for now, having confirmed he was taking time away during a Fight Life Pro Wrestling show over the weekend. Similarly, Fightful Select had heard that the Australian is either taking time away from AEW or is outright done, though this hasn't been confirmed.
Buddy appeared to deny the rumours earlier today.
Meltzer noted that AEW talent didn't find out about Matthews' stance and situation until the day it was reported. There was no indication that Wednesday's Grand Slam match pitting Matthews and Brody King against Sting and Darby Allin was the House Of Black man's last in AEW.
Malakai Black secured a "conditional" AEW release earlier this month. It was later reported that he wants to go back to WWE, though it has been speculated that the conditions of his release may prevent him from doing so - at least for a while.
