Report: WWE Personnel Warn Tony Khan NOT To Sign Shane McMahon For AEW
As if Shane McMahon becoming #AllElite wasn't ridiculous enough...
"Somebody should warn Tony Khan what he's in for if he brings Shane McMahon to AEW."
The above comment was passed on to PWTorch's Wade Keller by people within WWE who believe it would be in the AEW's best interests to steer clear of McMahon, whose ties with WWE were severed following a backstage debacle at Royal Rumble 2022.
McMahon's sense of entitlement was cited as the main reason for the above quote. Keller's sources believe that should Shane show up in a promotion that isn't WWE, this would likely be amplified, even compared to how he behaved at the Royal Rumble - where he was "out of control."
Released by WWE on Wednesday, Shane not only participated in this year's men's Royal Rumble, but played a role in producing it as well. The 52-year-old kicked up an almighty stink backstage for reportedly trying to make the bout all about himself, then took a huff when several of his ideas were vetoed. This put immense heat on him, to the point that Vince McMahon felt he had no choice but to let his own son go.
WWE canned several creative plans for Shane as a result, including pitched matches at Elimination Chamber 2022 and WrestleMania 38.
As WWE's closest competition, that AEW would be linked to Shane following his WWE release was inevitable. That Khan would consider hiring him seems fanciful, though, particularly after these latest incidents.
