Ronda Rousey UFC 207 Defeat - 7 Things We Learned
6. The Shine Could Be Off A Potential Wrestling Career
WWE has flirted with the possibility of bringing Ronda Rousey in for a longer program with the company once she was done with MMA. Or before it, if they could ever work out a deal. Her WrestleMania moment at the big show a few years back was one of the biggest in the history of the event. She's been open about her love of pro wrestling.
The feeling was mutual - but will that continue?
Lets break this down. First, it's not as if MMA fighters in the WWE haven't lost before. Brock Lesnar lost his final two UFC fights in his original run, but was still marketed as a monster. Ken Shamrock was far from undefeated when he joined the WWE (he was 23–5–2 at the time).
Yet for Rousey, much of her mystique, and therefore her draw, was her billing of Baddest Woman on the Planet. She was an undefeated arm-wrecking machine who had only once gone past the first round. She hadn't lost in years.
Then Holly Holm upset her. It was easy to dismiss that as a bad match-up, but this second straight loss has devalued her. The WWE could still work her in, but she's certainly lost some of her upside if she does change careers.
