Ex-WWE star Ronda Rousey has sparked controversy by claiming that the promotion booking her against Alexa Bliss was "f***ing ridiculous."

Guesting on the Lapsed Fan podcast, Rousey clearly disagreed with WWE pairing her with Bliss based on Alexa's merchandise numbers (h/t Daily DDT):

"The fact that they had me fighting Alexa Bliss at all was [expletive] ridiculous, and you wanna know why they had me against Alexa Bliss? Because she had the most merch sales at the time. Like what the [expletive]! That's your decision-making process?"

Alexa Bliss responded soon after, tweeting:

"I love our business ?"

Ronda's comments also caught the attention of AEW's MJF, who tweeted, correctly (given that strong merchandise sales tend to correlate to a wrestler's popularity):

"It’s almost like pro wrestling much like any professional sport functions as a business. Fucking crazy ?"

Alexa Bliss and Ronda Rousey wrestled each other multiple times during the latter's first WWE run. In their first contest (19 August 2018), Rousey defeated Bliss to become Raw Women's Champion, meaning the former UFC star is effectively complaining about being booked in a title-winning program.

Rousey then successfully defended the Raw belt against Bliss at Hell In A Cell 2018 the following month.

Wrestling appears to be in Ronda's rearview for now. The former MMA pioneer's last match was in November 2023, three months after she departed WWE. On The Lapsed Fan, Rousey confirmed that she is "pretty much" done with the sport.

Bliss, meanwhile, remains a prominent WWE SmackDown star. The 34-year-old is currently 34 days into a Women's Tag Team Title run with Charlotte Flair, as part of an 'odd couple' storyline that saw them dethrone The Judgment Day's Roxanne Perez and Raquel Rodriguez in August.
