The Disturbing Truth Behind Sister Abigail
Was all of this just a poetic, in-depth means of putting over the power of Wyatt’s finish that carried the same name? Or was Sister Abigail a haunting, metaphysical presence?
Wyatt continued to refer to Abigail in his increasingly baffling promos as a spirit guide of sorts, illuminating the backstory. Abigail, as Wyatt alluded, was the source of his (undefined, also quite lame) supernatural powers.
She was dead, we knew that much. Or—dun, dun, dun—was she?
Sister Abigail, because John Cena is John Cena, became a laughing stock well under a year from the first utterance of her name. Cena said, in the spring of 2014, that Wyatt’s Sister Abigail “sounds like a lovely woman.” Hopefully, they weren’t twins, because then she “might qualify as the ugliest woman on planet earth.”
With that witty, zinging aside, Cena all but destroyed the aura of Sister Abigail. It was all impossible to take seriously, after that, but WWE fans are —or were—a hopeful bunch.
Soon, those fans created their own narrative—possibly because the existing narrative was so nonsensical—and projected their own ideas of who might play this character.
