The WORST Wrestling Story Every Year (1989-2025)

2006 - DX Vs. Mr. McMahon

This was far beyond excruciating, Jesus Christ.

Triple H was never a great babyface. It’s hard to be a babyface when you’re methodical in the ring, show little fire, radiate smugness, and have connived yourself into a top, permanent spot.

He played babyface in 2006, when he reformed D-Generation X alongside Shawn Michaels, and it might have been even worse than those times he played an overpowered, vengeful warlord.

One of the worst things about Triple H is that he actually has a sliver of comedic timing. This has convinced him that he is hilarious, when in reality, he is too crude and smug to actually be funny. It’s a paradoxical curse that we’ve all had to bear through his immense level of power and flagrant need to wield it.

DX feuded with Mr. McMahon. The plotting was asinine - DX would prank Vince by pouring “faeces” over him from the arena rafters - and the source of tension was ugly. Basically, Triple H, when he wasn’t such a hot cool stud getting blown by chicks backstage, would call Vince gay. He said that Vince loves cocks - but this was very clever, since he was actually talking about the animal, which allowed him to get away with it.

The worst of it was that Vince and Triple H were good friends, close family, and everybody knew it. This felt like the worst boy’s club patter of all-time, exactly the sort of rancid stuff they’d pop each with behind closed doors, passed off as the only major-arena wrestling show on TV.
