Another theme that seems to exist throughout the discussion of Vince McMahon's feuds is former friends-turned foes. One of those higher profile friendships involved Macho Man Randy Savage. Throughout Savage's career, Vince had always viewed Macho as a main event talent, even turning to Savage to hold the company's championship when Hulk Hogan was away from the company filming No Holds Barred in 1988. It wasn't until 1993 when their relationship began to sour. Savage was no longer considered by Vince to be an important in-ring talent and, instead, was put into a full-time color commentator and television host role. Savage still felt he could be utilized as a top draw for the company and eventually left for WCW in late 1994. Vince gave a very rare on-screen thank you and farewell to the Macho Man on the November 7, 1994 episode of RAW. This feud did not pick up much steam until years later when it became apparent that Vince had suddenly harbored ill-will towards Randy for largely unknown reasons. Speculation still ranges from the WCW defection to an affair with an underage Stephanie McMahon for the reason why Vince became so angry with Savage after he had left. Although Savage was inducted into the 2015 Hall Of Fame, it was clearly a PR move and one that McMahon still needled the memory of Savage by having longtime and real-life Savage enemy, Hulk Hogan, induct the Macho Man. To this day, the truth about Vince's hatred for Randy is unknown.
