Johnny Gargano's WWE contract expires on 3 December, writes Dave Meltzer in this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter, corroborating the date originally reported by Fightful Select on 14 September.

Gargano's future has been the subject of much speculation since the initial Fightful report dropped. This hit overdrive when the former NXT Champion deleted references to his home brand from his Twitter bio earlier this week, inviting fresh rumours.

Meltzer notes in the Observer that for now, there isn't anything to the deletions. Gargano remains with WWE and is part of plans the company has written for future NXT shows. In addition, nobody inside the company has been informed that his status has changed despite his contract's impending expiration.

Gargano, 34, hasn't wrestled since a defeat to LA Knight on NXT's 24 August episode. He has stayed active on television regardless, appearing in skits related to the ongoing Indi Hartwell/Dexter Lumis romance storyline alongside his wife, Candice LeRae, whose own WWE contract expires sometime in 2022.

Contracted to WWE since July 2015, Gargano is NXT's first Triple Crown Champion, having held the NXT Championship and Tag Team Championships as well as notching three reigns as North American Champion, making him one of the most decorated wrestlers in WWE developmental history.
