WWE: 10 Most Memorable Moments In Royal Rumble History

9. Jerry Lawler Hides Under The Ring (1996)

The mid-90s was Jerry Lawler's peak as a heel in the WWF, characterised no better than by his hilarious shenanigans in the 1996 Rumble, as he became only one of a few wrestlers who realised he could leave the ring if only he ensured not to leave over the top rope. It still surprises me to this day that we don't see more brawling taking place outside the ring or cheap tactics to trick other fighters by hiding, but Lawler made great use of it, hiding under the ring and periodically peaking out, at which point the camera would hilariously cut to his mischievous expression. Eventually the jig was up, however, as HBK himself, Shawn Michaels (who would go onto win the 1996 Rumble), cottoned onto his plan, pulled him out from under the ring, threw him back in and promptly eliminated him, much to the delight of the crowd.
