WWE: 10 Problems With The Batista Return

By Grahame Herbert /

8. Limited In-Ring Skills And Mic Skills

To clarify, I actually quite like Batista as a worker. A Batista match that I hate doesn't immediately spring to mind. In terms of mic skills he is also vastly improved from his early career catastrophes on the stick. Nevertheless, Batista is often cited as a limited worker and mic man in various circles of wrestling fandom. Given the fact he now has four years of ring rust on top of these limitations, we can perhaps expect some problems with Batista in terms of working matches and delivering promos. We got a hint of this Monday night on Raw. While Batista's promo to Orton was direct and to the point (which is in fitting with his character) it also flagged up some concerns about his charisma as a talker. The execution of his move set against Del Rio was also unspectacular. The initial spinebuster as Del Rio came rushing in looked a bit awkward. The Batista Bomb wasn't much better - it more resembled Batista hoisting Del Rio up and then dropping him. This wasn't the earth shattering sit down powerbomb that I remember. Time will tell if Batista does still have it in the ring, but after four years out it will be a real challenge.
