Batista first got over in the WWE for being a big tanned muscle man. When we talk about someone being ripped, this guy set the bar. As is often the case in life, what worked in the past isn't always going to work in the future. The bodybuilder image is out and the lean athlete is now in vogue. Even bigger men who are getting over these days are of a much leaner cut - just look at Roman Reigns. How Batista fits in will be interesting to see. Not only is his image out of fashion so to speak, but the bodybuilder type of physique is also a challenge to work with for the many smaller wrestlers now populating the WWE roster. For example, someone like CM Punk finds it easy to work with the agile Dean Ambrose. But working with a Batista sized person involves so much more concentration and strength. Just lifting Batista is exhausting - this guy weighs 290 lb! It presents a considerable if little considered issue for WWE talent. The real problem Batista may find though is cosmetic. His look belongs in the old days not the modern day. When people see a CM Punk or Seth Rollins they see an athlete. When they see a Batista they perceive a blown up dinosaur. Less savoury connotations are also associated with that muscle filled image, an image that WWE has spent much of the last few years trying to distance itself away from.
