Having been a megastar everywhere but WWE prior to 2016, it seems a little strange to call AJ Styles a "breakout star". However, in his first year with the company, Styles has made an unparalleled impact on the WWE. Debuting at number three in the 2016 Royal Rumble, AJ's WWE run has been almost faultless. With a list of big match victories that includes defeating John Cena at SummerSlam and beating Dean Ambrose to become the WWE World Heavyweight Champion at Backlash, WWE has gone all in with AJ Styles and are reaping the rewards.

SmackDown's "Champ that runs the Camp" is currently the centerpiece of the blue brand, filling John Cena's shoes in a fashion very few others could. Whether he's wrestling James Ellsworth or Dean Ambrose, Styles has proven to everyone that he truly is one of the best performers in the world. A heel fans love to hate but can't help but appreciate, the Slammy for Breakout Star of the Year will be AJ's second golden statue of the night.
