WWE: 5 Reasons To Be Excited About Tag Team Division

5. New Roles For The Midcard

The midcard of the WWE roster have en masse been treading water of late. With very few dedicated story lines and no real interest, the entire midcard has been left with little to no direction. Take the midcard titles for example: The Miz holds the Intercontinental Championship, but was recently squashed by Ryback just to give the latter a push, without the belt even being contested. Meanwhile Antonio Cesaro holds the US Title, and he is yet to get a real challenge beyond trying to look threatening well beating up Santino. Those that should be making the midcard interesting are either spending to much time in squash matches, just to run out of steam, or are pushed too quickly beyond. Ryback has gone straight from squashing nobodies to a potential feud with CM Punk; Brodus Clay went from an unstoppable, if dancing, force to zero interest; Tensai was beating John Cena and CM Punk, now he is getting squashed himself regularly. There are no stories, no interest. The tag team division could change that though. With the tournament alone, Sin Cara, Rey Mysterio, Damien Sandow, Cody Rhodes, Darren Young and Titus O'Neil all have their first meaningful feud in ages. It gives superstars a purpose and a direction, taking them out of the stagnant pond that is the midcard and giving them something to run with. Those that take their shot and look hungry could well benefit with a push into some meaningful singles competition. Kane and Daniel Bryan are the perfect examples. They could easily have just made do with this storyline, seen it out and waited their turn for another crack in the main event. Instead they have established it as the story of the moment, and will probably come out of it stronger than they went in. The tag team division at the moment is on the brink of something with real potential, with the superstars available to forge some of the best tag team matches of this modern era. All of WWE would benefit from its success.
