No more Sting in a wrestling ring. This week TMZ reported that The Icon was calling it a career. While I could take this opportunity to go over his career briefly, and wish him well, Im going to instead point out how STUPID WWE was in booking him! Because thats more fun! As a guy who came of age in the Attitude Era, I don't recall a single conversation of friends wanting to see Sting vs. Hunter during the height of the Monday Night War. It was Undertaker vs. Sting. But Hunter picks who he wants to get to work with, so we were given a lukewarm Bray Wyatt vs. Taker and Sting vs. HHH at WrestleMania 31, and now well never get that dream match. You had your chance WWE, and you didn't deliver! The last remaining WCW holdout came to WWE to end The Authority...for all of a few weeks. It really kind of undercut everything he did in the future. His first match in Raw history was against The Big Show, which was one of the worst opponents they could have picked for him. Sting was also unfairly asked to wrestle a main event match with a guy over 25 years younger than him. They could have played it a big safer, and brought him in for tag matches on occasion, and still had a few matches left to go. Taker and Sting teaming up to battle The Wyatt Family would have been fun. Sting and Cena teaming up could have been something too. Now, nothing. Oh yeah, and its also a shame that they made Sting look so awful in his last match, because he lost to a guy who had just lost a match to John Cena. Not a great way to go out. Well, thanks for all the in-ring memories Sting. From the surfer dude, to The Crow, to The Main Event Mafia, to the weird Joker thing, and then to whatever the hell WWE was doing with him. It was mostly fun. And now, its no longer showtime. Time to kick out.
