WWE Fastlane 2016: 10 Awesome Moments

2. Seeing AJ Styles In A Singles Match On WWE PPV

One overwhelming positive fans can take from Fastlane was the idea of seeing AJ Styles work a singles bout on pay-per-view for the very first time. Previously, the former TNA and New Japan Pro Wrestling star's matches against Chris Jericho had been fantastic. This was the 'rubber' match, and hopes were high that it would live up to the hype. Jericho is a very formulaic performer nowadays, he's not quite as quick as he used to be. There's no shame in that, the man isn't a full-time wrestler these days. However, regardless of any loss of speed, he's still someone that offers credibility once he's beaten. Thus, Styles gains some much-needed validity on the WWE roster. This was Y2J's way of welcoming AJ into the fold, that came across loud and clear. It's a mystery what Styles might do come WrestleMania, but he's been firmly bedded in by defeating Chris Jericho across their trio of matches. The series needed to go in favour of the newcomer, and the fact it did counts as a highlight of Fastlane.
