WWE Gimmicks That FAILED The HARDEST Every Year (1985-2025)
36. The Gobbledy Gooker (1990)
From a so-called rooster to a total turkey.
The WWF made a lot of noise about a giant egg heading into the 1990 edition of Survivor Series. What would be inside? Someone ready to make a huge announcement about WrestleMania VII the following year? A brand new wrestler coming over from WCW? Enough omelette for everyone in the Hartford Civic Center to enjoy?
No, it was Hector Guerrero dressed as The Gobbledy Gooker, and he fancied a little bit of dancing with 'Mean' Gene Okerlund. Boos rang out, unsurprisingly. After all, this egg business had been one of the most heavily hyped things about the entire pay-per-view, and it turned into a farce once Hector cracked his way out of the shell.
Keep in mind that this was the exact same night The Undertaker debuted. He looked like a total badass during his first performance, but Guerrero played a turkey to bring in the Thanksgiving celebrations in a way that precisely no-one wanted. It's amazing how big of a contrast there can be between how certain workers debut in major companies, eh?
The Gooker stuck around for a little while longer, but he was never long for TV. Vince McMahon didn't have a whole heck of a lot else for Hector to do once he'd jigged around with Okerlund and sucked all of the energy out of a disappointed live crowd. The unfortunate gimmick wasn't seen again until the 'Gimmick Battle Royal' put on at WrestleMania X-Seven.
At least he got a 'Mania match out of the role. Ahem.
