Insider account WRKD Wrestling reports that members of WWE's creative team are of the believe that the former NXT star has the ability to become a main event-level player, due to his wrestling and microphone skills.

Per WRKD:-

If it wasn’t clear from his work with Cena at Money In The Bank or Edge on #Smackdown, Grayson Waller is being set up for a big future. Many in creative feel that he has the tools, both wrestling and on the mic, to be a future main eventer for years to come.

This comes shortly after reports that the Australian was drawing positive backstage reviews from management for his recent performances.

Waller was involved in an in-ring segment with John Cena at Money in the Bank 2023 (1 July), playing a villainous role opposite the megastar, who was teasing the London crowd with talk of WWE bringing WrestleMania to London. Then, on last week's SmackDown, Grayson wrestled Edge in his first main roster match since being called up from NXT in April, losing in just under 15 minutes.

As far as that loss goes, Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE is still of the belief that if a wrestler loses to a bigger name, they become a bigger star themselves by virtue of sharing the ring with a decorated opponent. Historically, this tactic's success rate has been mixed.

Per Meltzer (h/t Wrestling Inc.):-

"They still have the idea that if you get beat by a star, you're seen as a bigger star because you're in the ring with them. And depending on how the match works, sometimes that's the case... I was surprised [Waller] wrestled because I didn't think he'd be back this soon."

Waller, 33, has been signed to WWE since March 2021.
