WWE Roster Unhappy With The Wild Card Rule?
WWE's year of backstage discontent continues with this new report.
Introduced on the 6 May episode of Monday Night Raw, WWE's new Wild Card Rule decreed that up to four Raw or SmackDown wrestlers could cross over to the other show on any given night. The promotion have made liberal use of it since then, consistently breaking the self-imposed four-person limit, with the likes of Roman Reigns, Kofi Kingston, and Sami Zayn all making regular jumps.
The rule ill-received rule has sparked much discussion among the fanbase. Now, it looks like this has extended to the locker room.
Per Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp, "all but one" of the people he has spoken to within the company hate the Wild Card. One even went as far as saying that they "wouldn't hate it if it was one person on a show, but it's a crutch," echoing one of the loudest fan criticisms since it was brought into play.
The Wild Card Rule was reportedly established as a compromise between Vince McMahon and Fox/USA Network officials, who wanted the brand split abolished entirely. It has meant more TV time for top stars, but less for those further down the ladder, further marginalising the midcard in this year of backstage discontent.
