Despite what World Wrestling Entertainment may instruct on-screen announcers to claim, not everyone involved in the annual Royal Rumble match has a shot at winning the thing. In a perfect world, every single entrant out of 30 men would be realistic winners, but that phrase is - ironically - very unrealistic. Instead, there are performers who fit into different roles when it comes to the Royal Rumble. There's a reason that Kofi Kingston wheels out that 'I can't believe he did that' elimination escape each year - that's the man's role in the match. Somehow each year Kingston manages to avoid being eliminated in some interesting, highly unlikely form or fashion, because that's his part to play in the Rumble. As it turns out, he's not the only one who has a specific task to perform. There's always that one performer who almost goes the distance, rallying fan support behind them whether they are babyface or heel. On the other side of the Rumble spectrum, there are those performers who simply have no chance whatsoever of even lasting longer than a few minutes in the match. Some are gone within seconds. During the 2016 Royal Rumble, the wrestlers involved will slide into their respective categories. This article looks at what those categories are, and ranks the chances of each entrant accordingly.
