As we gather to lament the Jinder Mahals, the Josh Matthews, and the JTGs of the world, Mark Yeaton, who has been with the company for thirty years was also let go recently due to budgetary reasons. You may not be familiar with the name, but youve probably seen him hundreds of times. Yeaton was a man who was WWEs expert timekeeper. He was also Steve Austins official beer thrower. He rang the bell for the Montreal Screwjob, and also took a beating by The Nexus the night they formed. Through it all, he rang that bell night in and night out. He a man we could count on, and one of the unseen heroes of WWE TV. Yeaton wasnt fired because he was a terrible timekeeper, but because not enough people bought WWEs Network. He was a victim of WWEs decision long ago of deciding to go public, and having to make Wall Street happy every single quarter. Costs have to be cut so the stock doesnt drop. Its unfortunate that people who had nothing to do with the big decisions are the ones that had to suffer. On Twitter, Steve Austin and Jim Ross both seemed upset by Yeatons release. In his honor, Im going to throw some beers at my neighbors when theyre outside tonight. Im sure theyll understand the reference. Unfortunately, Yeaton wasnt the only WWE employee whose release made the news this week...
