Yesterday saw Ringside News report that while WWE is planning a SmackDown-based Elimination Chamber match at next week's pay-per-view, it would be a men's match, not a women's bout. The prospect of the latter hasn't even been discussed during creative meetings.

Dave Meltzer has now shed new light on the situation. He writes in this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Roman Reigns is currently scheduled to defend his Universal Championship against five contenders in the second Chamber, adding that while the exact lineup of competitors is currently unknown, Kevin Owens looks like an obvious choice. Owens attacked Reigns on last week's episode of SmackDown, extended their feud beyond Royal Rumble 2021.

Instead of defending her SmackDown Women's Championship inside the Chamber, Sasha Banks looks to be heading towards another one-on-one with Carmella instead. This is despite 'The Boss' beating Carmella at two consecutive pay-per-views.

The night's other Chamber match pits WWE Champion Drew McIntyre against five former champions in AJ Styles, Sheamus, The Miz, Randy Orton, and Jeff Hardy. Raw Women's Champion Asuka vs. Lacey Evans and United States Champion Bobby Lashley vs. Riddle vs. Keith Lee have also been confirmed.
