Backstage update on plans for second Chamber match at WWE Elimination Chamber 2021.

With WWE Elimination Chamber now just over a week away, there’s a new update on the current plans for the PPV.

This past Monday saw Shane McMahon and Adam Pearce announce that WWE Champion Drew McIntyre will be defending his prize against Sheamus, AJ Styles, Randy Orton, the Miz and Jeff Hardy in the Chamber structure come 21 February.

Now, Ringside News reports that WWE currently has plans for a second Chamber contest to take place at the PPV – which will be a SmackDown contest that will not involve the brand’s women’s division.

If this report is to believed, that means that this second Chamber affair will either see Roman Reigns defend the Universal Championship against five other men, or the bout could even possibly be to establish a new challenger for Reigns’ title.

All signs still point to men’s Royal Rumble winner Edge facing Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 37, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that a match for a shot at the High Chief’s gold is off the table at the Elimination Chamber PPV.

With WWE looking to go big for its Fastlane event on 21 March – which will be the first PPV to be a part of Peacock – one option would be for Reigns to defend the Universal Championship there, before then going on to face Edge at the Showcase of the Immortals.

As of this writing, WWE is said to have no plans to do a women’s Elimination Chamber match this year, although as is so often the case with Vince McMahon’s sports entertainment behemoth, plans can always change in the blink of an eye.
