As Mercedes Moné, the artist formerly known as Sasha Banks has been able to carve out the niche she often wanted to within a system that was simply never going to allow her to live every dream she'd set for herself.

'The CEO' might not throw her weight around any more than 'The Boss' ever did, but you wouldn't know it watching her work. She performs as if she has all the agency her persona could ever need, walking in and out of matches and programmes as if she's booking them herself and only if the money's right. Wrestling's a work of course, and she's just doing a brilliant job of playing a role. There were times in WWE where this...wasn't the case.

It was during a podcast interview with Stone Cold Steve Austin where she spoke of her dreams to run the show, let alone work on it, and perhaps nights like WrestleMania 35 are why. There, she defended and lost tag team gold alongside Bayley to comedy act The IIconics just a month or so after wishing them into existence. For those watching at home, it was all-too-clear how it was going to go from her expression. 

Three years earlier, Sasha Banks had to fight back tears walking to the ring alongside Snoop Dogg, such was the emotion of the moment. Having been though the WWE meat-grinder in the time since, she knew what she wanted out of the career, and it wasn't to have one of her dreams dashed on the 'Grandest Stage'. On a Network special about her ups and downs with the company years later, she spoke through very different tears how it wasn't just the perceived injustice of the booking but how little it meant to her when it was once everything.
