7 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE Raw (1 December - Results & Review)
2. Trope Leading To Another Trope
Just because something is somewhat logical and decently performed, it doesn’t mean that it should be absolved of any criticism.
The opening segment of Raw was your typical WWE trope-fest: a mini-promo train that led to an impromptu match being made between Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky, and Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss. There was nothing special about the opening, other than the relief that it was the wrestlers who set up the match rather than Raw GM Adam Pearce coming out to make it “official.”
Fast-forward to the main event, which was a pretty good tag match… until the Kabuki Warriors ran out for a double-disqualification, which triggered a series of run-ins, with Bayley and Lyra Valkyria making the save, and the Judgment Day women getting involved as well.
Ah, yes, that age-old trope of a double-DQ so that WWE presumably can set up a multi-team match, either for the #1 contender’s spot or for the tag titles themselves. If you’re keeping score, that’s a promo train leading to an impromptu match that led to a double-DQ that will likely lead to a multi-team match.
Come on, people. Do better.
