7 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE Raw (9 March - Results & Review)
1. Punk Drops Truth Bombs On The Usos
If you have followed WWE for the past few years and hate loose ends, you probably loved CM Punk’s show-closing promo with the Usos Monday night.
Last week, Punk threatened to bury Roman Reigns next to his deceased father Sika, a comment that prompted Jimmy and Jey Uso to interrupt Punk on Monday and demand an apology. What they got instead was a history lesson.
Punk traced his own ties to their family, talking about training under Afa, Sika’s brother, practically babysitting Lance Anoa’i, riding in a truck bed with Samu, and gaining respect for the entire Anoa’i family.
Then Punk turned his attention to Roman.
Punk ran down Reigns as a lying, conniving, backstabbing, gaslighting, egotistical, narcissistic, plastic politician, which prompted Jey to demand that Punk say he’s sorry. So, Punk did.
He said he’s sorry that Roman treated his entire family in the Bloodline like trash for years and never apologized for it; that Roman had tricked his family and the fans into believing he gave a damn about them, evidenced by the fact he didn’t bother to show up and instead sent his “young boys” out to confront the Second City Saint.
That earned Punk a right hand from Jimmy, but to quote Punk, “Tell me when I’m telling lies.” Everything he said was true. It’s a huge plot hole in Roman’s story. He was the biggest villain in WWE when he lost the title at WrestleMania 40 and left, and when he came back a few months later, he hadn’t changed, nor did he apologize or explain himself.
The fact that the Usos have been carrying Roman Reigns’ water for six years now without ever being truly respected (other than a few flashes here and there) should be a major talking point and a big part of their makeup. Instead, they just run Jey’s entrance theme back.
Punk’s playing with fire here. He’s now running the risk of sending the Usos rushing right back to Roman’s side. He could turn the fans against him, if they decide to side with Reigns. He also has to know a receipt is coming.
More solid, excellent stuff from this World Heavyweight Championship feud. This is the one truly bankable WrestleMania angle going right now.
