10 Best X-Men Costume Redesigns
As the next step in evolution, the X-Men have also evolved with their fashion sense.
Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in the '60s, the X-Men started out as five super-powered teenagers under the tutelage of Professor Charles Xavier. Eventually, they blossomed as one of Marvel's most recognizable teams. Having a diverse roster such as Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler and more, the X-Men have continued to evolve, changing members and updating line-ups throughout the years. Their popularity even spawned numerous spin-off titles such as X-Factor, X-Force, Excalibur and the New Mutants.
Unlike most other superheroes such as Spider-Man or the Fantastic Four, the Merry Mutants have gone through regular costume changes, always updating their uniforms as new artists would take over the series. With talented artists such as Jack Kirby, Neal Adams, Dave Cockrum, John Byrne at the helm, it does make sense why the superhero team would be refreshed from time to time.
While there have been many fashion disasters in the X-Men, like the infamous mouthless Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, there have been many success stories as well. Sometimes, these redesigns are so good that it becomes a defining look for these characters.
10. X-Factor Havok
As Cyclops' younger brother, Havok often gets overshadowed by the more popular Summers. Yet time and time again, he has proven to be a good leader in his own right. Initially sporting a containment suit design by Larry Trask, the younger Summers wore an all-black bodysuit complete with a unique helmet which allowed him to control his powers. But during the '90s, Alex Summers received a redesign more contemporary as he was tasked to lead the revamped government-sanctioned X-Factor.
Sporting a big yellow X on his chest complete with a leather jacket, this new uniform matched closely with his comrades. He even had a headpiece that was popularized by fellow X-Man Gambit in the '90s while showcasing his blonde hair. Ultimately, Havok's redesigned costume was modernized during the new decade while maintaining the aesthetic established by Neal Adams all those years ago.
This new look of his would even appear during his guest appearance in the X-Men: The Animated Series where he and the X-Factor members faced off against his brother's team.
