3. Doctor Doom Uses A Spider To Phone Spider-Man

Doctor Doom showed up in ASM #5 with the brilliant idea of enlisting Spider-Man€™s help to defeat the Fantastic Four. Doom uses a spider to transmit a message to Spidey €œon his own wavelength€ which makes absolutely no sense.

He simply inserts a spider into a machine and speaks into a microphone. Somehow, this message is telepathically delivered straight to Peter€™'s brain, although he describes it as reaching him through his spider sense, which nowadays is really only used as an early warning system for danger. Spider sense was somewhat nebulous in the beginning.

In ASM #1, Spidey uses it to track the Chameleon€™s helicopter all the way from the center of the city to the waterfront. The spider sense became much more specialized as time went on.
