10 Cancelled Horror Movies That Could Have Been Legendary

3. Peter Jackson's Nightmare On Elm Street 6: The Dream Lover

Before his days of carrot-eating cameos and nailing one of the greatest series of films in cinema history, Peter Jackson was at one point not even considered good enough for an increasingly cheesy slasher series on its way down the pan.

After The Dream Child failed to impress anyone following its release in 1989, New Line Cinema approached Jackson and asked he wanted to take a shot at writing a script for Nightmare 6. Called The Dream Lover, Jackson's script once again took place in Springwood, Ohio, only it picks up at a time where the local teenagers are no longer scared of Freddy, instead regularly taking sleeping pills so they can take turns to beat up the serial killer.

It sounds like a story that is caught somewhere between insanely bad and the kind of so-crazy-it-might-work kind of vibes that initially made Freddy so popular, so it's anyone's guess how the film would have done. The idea of Freddy losing his dream powers was later explored in Freddy vs. Jason (a film Jackson actually refused to work on), whilst his script ended up being looked over in favour of Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare, which really was insanely bad.
