10 Famous Unmade Comic Book Movies We WISH We Could Have Seen

4. Green Arrow: Escape From Super Max

The Green Arrow may have become firmly established in the public consciousness after headlining eight seasons of the popular TV show, but the character was largely unknown to the general public when David S. Goyer and Justin Marks initially pitched the studio with their idea for Escape From Super Max.

When handled right, prison break movies are perfect for wringing plenty of tension and thrills out of the concept, and the idea of bolting that onto the action-orientated trappings of the superhero genre would have resulted in a genuinely unique approach to the material.

The plot was set to follow Oliver Queen following his wrongful imprisonment for the assassination of a government official. From there, the Green Arrow would be forced to rely on his wits and form uneasy alliances with his fellow inmates in order to escape from the titular facility, while also unraveling the conspiracy surrounding his incarceration.

Goyer teased that his script had cameos from Amanda Waller, Lex Luthor and more, while architecture major and co-writer Marks wanted to make the prison a character in its own right. Though the project was eventually canceled and some elements were loosely adapted for Arrow's seventh season, a high-concept prison break blockbuster set in the DC universe remains a massive missed opportunity that we wish we'd have been able to see.
