10 Horrific Movie Deaths That Had To Be Cut Out
3. Jaws - Alex Kintner's Alternate Death
For a film with a PG rating, the deaths in Jaws are still plenty gory. None of the victims get an easy time of it, with limbs being severed and people being bitten in half. The film even broke a couple of unwritten cinematic rules with one scene; don’t kill animals or children.
Shortly after grabbing poor Pippet the dog, the shark stalking Amity turns his attention to the nearby swimmers, with young Alex drawing the short straw. The moment the shark grabs the boy is seen from a distance, and we never got a good look at the shark. There was, however, an alternate scene shot, where we briefly see it rise out of the water and bite down on him, resulting in a fountain of blood.
This disturbing moment was deleted because it was too grisly, and Spielberg felt it was too early to get a good look at the shark. This shot survives now in grainy stills, which are creepy all by themselves.
