Movie-goers often throw admiration at actors associated with a certain "fearlessness" when it comes to choosing their roles. But many of these "fearless" choices aren't fearless at all - they're roles written and positioned purposely as Oscar bait, and when a high-profile/method actor signs on, everybody flips out, like, what, were we expecting Daniel Day-Lewis to do badly as Lincoln or something? Nicolas Cage, on the other hand, is a truly fearless actor, and one of very few who isn't particularly bothered about failing (and God knows he has done so a lot). But he's an actor who takes on absolutely any role and tries to inject it with, at least, something different. If it doesn't work out and movie's a huge flop or a critical diaster? Oh, well, move on, who cares? He'll do main roles, he'll do cameos, Hell, he'll even pop up as a favour to a friend... That's true fearlessness, because he's putting his career out there each and every time. Nicolas Cage should be credited - not mocked - for his willingness to try new things, no matter how "out there" his choices seem.
