10 Recent Movie Characters You Were Happy To See Die

8. The Traveler - Carry On

Carry On was a surprise hit on Netflix over Christmas 2024, largely because the likeable underdog protagonist, Taron Egerton's Ethan Kopek, was perfectly matched with the unflappable and sinister Traveler (Jason Bateman). The will to see Kopek win was as strong as the want to see the Traveler lose.

There are several reasons why the movie's villain was so detestable. He manipulated Ethan and threatened his wife, of course, but he had no problem with the death of any number of innocent people, and the ruin of others' careers and lives.

Arguably, what made this even worse was that he had no principal on the line. Some bad guys at least have a point that can be understood, even if their methods aren't agreed with, but the Traveler did what he did for nothing more than the money. That, and how cold and indifferent he was to what he was doing, truly made audiences hate him.

Ethan was always going to come out on top, and killing Bateman's hateful character with his own weapon was a stroke of poetic beauty. There's no death scene quite like one dripping with this much irony.
