10 Sacred Movie Franchises That Should Never Be Remade Or Rebooted
7. The Lord of the Rings
We've already seen the vastly inferior results of what can happen when the money men decide to try and squeeze every last penny out of The Lord of the Rings franchise, and The Hobbit movies came from the same director.
Amazon may be in the process of mounting a mega-budget TV series set in Middle Earth, which is at least a smart idea in order to avoid direct comparisons to one of the greatest trilogies in the history of cinema, but should it turn out to be a massive success then maybe they could end up feeling bold enough to tackle the books themselves.
Not only were they the subjects of almost universal critical acclaim, the winners of seventeen Academy Awards and recipients of almost $3bn in box office takings, but the Lord of the Rings will endure forever as a monumental achievement in filmmaking that couldn't possibly be improved upon.
It might not happen any time soon, but you can guarantee at some point in the future somebody is going to float the idea of remaking the trilogy, and hopefully they'll be shot down at the speed Legolas fires his arrows.
