8. The Addams Family

The Addams Family remake hasn’t gained a lot of traction yet, although marketing is sure to pick up prior to its Halloween release. We have though seen one trailer showing off the leading cast, and right now it doesn’t seem too much to get excited about.

The cast, at least, is stellar, so there’s every chance they could deliver, with Charlize Theron, Oscar Isaac, Chloe Moretz, Finn Wolfhard, Allison Janey, Nick Kroll and Bette Midler involved. However, with the exception of Kroll, none of these are known for their prowess in either voice over or comedy, which is a worry.

Morticia makes a reference to IT, suggesting the movie isn’t aiming for the timeless quality of the original cartoon nor the Raul Julia/Anjelica Huston movies. There’s a few other lines which land with a thud, and while it’s clear to see the disaffected tone Chloe Moretz is aiming for, she seems like she’s well short of Christina Ricci as Wednesday.

The original movies appeal to adults and children alike, and while they’re beloved they don’t really have the sort of fanbase who’s always desperate for more. The Addams Family seem like maybe they should’ve just been left alone.
