10 Upcoming Movies Destined To Piss Off Fans
6. Godzilla: King Of The Monsters
The original Godzilla movie was a metaphor for the destruction of Japan by the two nuclear bombs in World War II, but the 2016 remake didn’t deem it necessary to let something as inconsequential as symbolism or nuanced themes get in the way of the action.
That said, it had no airs and graces, so the fact it’s a VFX spectacle of a popcorn flick can’t be held against it. Or at least, it couldn’t.
The upcoming King Of The Monsters has a touching, melancholic trailer which suggests an extreme overreach, especially with the heavy handed Christianity symbol of the cross on the hill.
The fact is though, even if King Of The Monsters somehow does become a nuance tale of humanity’s wilful compliance in their own destruction through an over reliance on violence, the sequel will screw all that up anyway.
No matter how well King Of The Monsters follows through on its poetic ambitions, it’s set to be followed Godzilla Vs Kong, which is hardly a title or premise befitting an intelligent, introspective movie.
Plus, any movie which unironically says ‘Oh my Godzilla’ and deems it cool enough for the trailer is definitely going to piss fans off.
