10 Upcoming Movies Destined To Piss Off Fans
5. Avatar 2
Avatar 2 has been in production for by far the longest, with the first Avatar coming out in 2009, shattering box office records and pioneering the use of 3D. It was always a bit of a strange one to get a sequel though, and that’s precisely why it might piss fans off.
Since Avatar, 3D has become a normal add-on in cinemas, though many people still prefer 2D. It earned its place as the biggest grossing movie ever not through the strength of its storytelling, but because of technology. Everyone had to see it in this expensive new way.
People saw it multiple times, but specifically to see the effects. To say the story didn’t matter is harsh, but considering the huge numbers it pulled, it seems to have had no lasting impact on pop culture.
Avatar has annoyed movie buffs anyway, sitting atop the record through a gimmick. Like Michael Owen being Newcastle UTD’s record signing for so long, it felt undeserving and negativity festered the longer it’s gone on.
James Cameron is pushing for High Frame Rate in cinemas for Avatar 2, but as a sequel it lacks the instant draw and the technology has nowhere near the novelty factor of 3D.
